“Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.” —Karl Barth

Not to be confused with the fleeting feeling of happiness, joy seldom relates to money or material things. Instead, you will often find them in special moments like –
- getting married
- getting a puppy
- getting your first job
- publishing your first book
1. The Joy Puppies Bring
I always wanted a dog of my own since the dogs we had as children were family dogs and didn’t belong to a specific child. My husband got me my first puppy as a gift, and when he died just shy of seventeen years, we acquired another one.
Holding those little bundles for the first time was sheer joy. It is incredible to see how God formed them so perfectly and that even though they are so small, they are already pure dogs!
2. Challenges of Introverts with Hearing Loss
All people face challenges, but you, as an introvert with hearing loss, have additional challenges that often feel overwhelming. Your hearing loss frequently exacerbates your challenges as an introvert.
Introverts already have finite resources for social engagements, but noise and listening fatigue from your hearing loss depletes these resources even faster.
Because of communication challenges, you tend to withdraw, depriving you of the social interaction even an introvert needs. This social isolation can cause many issues like loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
However, you can experience joy despite life’s challenges.
3. Questions to ponder
Reflect on the question below, and consider how it can change your life.
- Is joy something we create despite our struggles?
- Is joy something you can learn to cultivate in everyday moments?
- Will your life be different if you see joy as a choice instead of a momentary feeling?
- What if you can find joy in the small, ordinary moments we often take for granted?
4. Finding joy is a journey
When we look at these questions, it is clear that joy results from our mindset, choices, and actions. Thus, finding joy is a process and a part of our journey through life.
In this series of posts, we will explore challenges unique to you as an introvert with hearing loss, like
- isolation
- dealing with anxiety
- challenges in marriage
- communication challenges
- embracing your introversion
- fatigue (introvert hangover, listening fatigue)
- dealing with the responsibilities of dog ownership
In the past, I have dealt with many challenges, like unemployment, rejection, and financial hardship, with the resultant stress on my marriage, the loss of my parents and beloved dog, and the ongoing battle against overthinking, catastrophizing, and giving in to my intense emotions. These are all things that can steal your happiness and joy.
Please join me on this journey as we explore practical tools and strategies to overcome these challenges and treasure the small joys of life.
When you combine it with your belief in our God, who wants us to experience His joy, you can see that it is not impossible to Jump for Joy!
Quiet Words that Linger.
